We fall in love with Characters

We fall in love with characterS when we should be falling in love with character.

The man in the movies isn’t always the man in real life (ahem, Sean Connery).

The athlete on the podium isn’t always the athlete in the gym (too many to name).

The couple, all shiny and loving at the party, isn’t always the couple in the bedroom.

The millionaire with his mansions, isn’t the happiest man alone in his kitchen.

The mom at the playground, isn’t the mother she looks like when at home.

We fall in love with what we want to see. The characterS we want to be…

We fall in love with the movie hero – he’s not who he is off the red carpet.

In reality we should be focusing on creating the character we WANT to see in others and for others to see in us instead of romanticizing the characters we pay to see.

To be the best example instead of the stories we post on social media to keep up with the other’s doing the same thing.

We don’t see the fights, the candle burning at both ends the loneliness, the tears, the screaming matches, the feelings of imposter hood, the empty cupboards, etc etc etc.

It takes work to focus on yourself, to see beyond the glitz of others’ social media posts.

It takes guts to fall in love with character instead of THE character.

You’ll have to leave some things behind.

You’ll have to dig a little deeper into YOU.

WHO do you want to be?

WHAT do you want to be remembered for?

HOW will you become of that character?

WHEN will you start achieving it?

For me:

I want to be known as a hard worker. An honest woman.

A truth seeker. A truth speaker.

I want my life to reflect my character.

My life is a reflection of me…. I want you to know exactly where I stand. I want to be open, to be strong enough to admit I’m wrong, weak and still seeking. To rule be the happiness I show.

I want my reputation to precede me so when I walk into a room, my presence is felt and known to be true, clear and bold.

No time like the present. Get busy on what you want. Take the actions necessary (conventional or not) to achieve the character you want to be known for. Take the scary steps, pull away from the noise, focus on what’s in front of you and find the character beyond the characterS.
